According to recent study heifers prepared for breeding can safely eat 20 per cent less during the seven months between weaning and breeding. Producers can save $21 per animal. Researchers found that heifers with unlimited feed grew faster than the calves on reduced feed. The heifers that ate less used their feed more efficiently. They took less feed to gain a pound. The study got strong evidence to support its findings about reducing feeding.
